Poison Promise by Jennifer Estep Book Review

four-half-stars

In book eleven of her New York Times bestselling Elemental Assassin series, author Jennifer Estep continues “one of the best urban fantasy series going on the market” (Fresh Fiction).Gin Blanco is hard-nosed, sexy, and lethal. Nicknamed “The Spider,” she’s a stone elemental assassin who brings her unique mix of magic and tact to every assignment, no matter the target. There’s a new drug on the streets of Ashland, and its name “Burn” sums up the potent effect it has on its users. When one of her restaurant employees is threatened by dealers of the drug, Gin steps in to set things straight…

I know that most people would think that being this far into a series the books would become tedious and repetitive but Jennifer Estep knows how to keep you entertained and make this book the opposite of what you would expect. I love Gin Blanco more and more and as this series continues I love to see what the author will throw at us next. She writes Gin in such a way that I want nothing but the nest for her but I know that her happiness will be short lived because there will be something or someone that gets in her way. This time around we find Gin still dealing with some of the fallout of having taken down Mab and having the other kingpins trying to take her out. I love that regardless what Gin has thrown at her she takes it in strides and rolls with the punches. Gin soon has to help her waitress who she learns is in a dangerous situation and for Gin it becomes more personal because it ends up involving her sister Bria.

Gin soon has a new person to take down in the form of a new drug dealer that is putting a dangerous drug called Burn out on the streets. Gin soon has to work on taking him down but she also has to deal with Bria who wants to do things the legal way. I think I loved this book more than the others because we really got to finally see Gin and Bria butt heads over what Gin does to take down the bad guys and how Bria really feels about it. The girls finally resolve their issues and from there the plot is put into place to take down the bad guy.Once again we got what we are used to which is plenty of action and we had the usual characters back in the form of Finn,Owen and Sophia and I loved seeing them in the action. This time around Gin learns she really will need the help of her friends if she wants to come out on top. I loved that this time around the city of Ashland really gets to see The Spider in action and Gin shows them what she is made of in true Gin fashion.

Overall this was another awesome installment of one of my favorite series and I swear the author is just making this series better. I love the characters and the action was off the charts amazing like always. We really got to see more of The Spider and a little less of Gin the person and I loved the brief introduction of MM Monroe that we got also. I have to say that she wasn’t who I thought she was and it was a nice twist. I can’t wait for the next book because I am looking forward to the showdown that I know will have to take place. I highly recommend that lovers of this series get to this one soon as you will not be disappointed.
