“My name is Tess Little. But everyone calls me Red.”

Once upon a time, a spell went awry, stranding Make Believe characters in the ordinary world. Since then, Tess “Red” Little—a/k/a Little Red Riding Hood—has worked as an Enforcer for the Chicago branch of the Fairytale Management Authority. But, consider yourself warned—she’s not just some waif with a basket of goodies. All grown up and with nothing to lose, a gun and combat boots is more her style. And Red’s new assignment threatens to be short on happily ever afters…

Someone is murdering transplanted Tales in gruesome fashion. The list of fictional characters capable of such grisly acts is short and includes more than one of Red’s old flames. And if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s another complication, in the form of sexy, enigmatic Nate Grimm, the FMA’s lead detective and part-time Reaper. Used to following her own rules and living life on the edge, Red has managed to avoid taking on a partner until now. But Nate’s dark side makes him perfect for a case like this. That is, if she can trust him. Because if there’s one thing Red knows for sure, it’s that believing in the wrong person can have big, bad consequences…

I have wanted to read this book for a while and am glad that I finally found time to do so. This book was so cool and being that I am a huge Once Upon a Time watcher this book was the perfect read for me as I am going through withdrawals waiting on the new season to start. The author created a world in which we have fairy tales characters being brought over into the real world due to a spell and this book is about them adjusting to life now. The world building the author created was phenomenal and I got such joy out of trying to figure out who the people in the books were. It was so cool to see the author show both the fairy tale sides and the human sides to them also. She made them seem so realistic and like everyday people with everyday issues. I loved the character of Red from the start as she was my kind of heroine being that she was tough and had such a cool job as an Enforcer for the Fairytale Management Authority. We soon learn that there is something serious going down in their town and Red must work on figuring out who is behind it all and quickly.

As we get further into the story Red gets partnered up with Nate Grimm who I was crushing on from the start. I mean who doesn’t like tall, dark and handsome with a serious sense of style and who can handle Red and keep her on her toes. The pair set out to figure out who is behind the murders and soon learn that there just may be in store for them. I loved seeing these two works together because they balanced each other out and kept each other on their toes also. I loved finding out who Nate was and the back story behind how he got that way. The story continues and we get to meet a few people that are suspected of the crimes and learn that most of them are exes of Red and I have to say that that only that I liked was Seth and he was the one that hurt Red the most. I am interested in learning more about him though and why he ended things the way he did with Red. We also meet Vlad who is a famous vampire you would all know and a big jerk. I didn’t care for him at all and couldn’t figure out what attracted Red to him at all. I think that the main reasons that I didn’t care for him are what helped make Red even stronger as a person though and that made it all worth it in the end for me.

Overall this book was full of action and the concept was just what I was looking for. I loved the way the author took what we all knew and loved about these characters and turned it all into something completely different. She made the characters one that you want to know more about and get invested in. I have to say that the actual mystery itself I solved pretty early on but wanted to continue reading to see how it would all play out and end and it was worth it.  I am planning on reading more of the series to see what happens next for Red and Grimm.  I would recommend this one to readers that love a good read with entertaining snarky characters and especially to my lovers of the Once Upon a Time series.
