Quinn Lennox is searching for a missing friend when she stumbles into a dark otherworld that only she can see—and finds herself at the mercy of Arturo Mazza, a dangerously handsome vampire whose wicked kiss will save her, enslave her, bewitch her, and betray her. What Arturo can't do is forget about her—any more than Quinn can control her own feelings for him. Neither one can let desire get in the way of their mission—his to save his people, hers to save herself. But there is no escape from desire in a city built for seduction, where passion flows hot and blood-red.
If you are going into this book expecting the vampires that are trying to be more human than this is not the book for you. These vampires are gritty mean and have no value whatsoever for human life and I liked every minute of it. Welcome to the world of Vamp City and here the vamps rule all and play no games. The town was created as a mirror image of Washington DC but they are still living in the 19th century. We start this book by meeting Quinn who is a normal woman going through life and one day her brother needs help finding a missing friend and their worlds will never be the same. Quinn ends up in a alternate world that she never knew existed and along the way she meets Arturo. Oh where do I begin with Arturo and the narrator that did his voice. She brought him to life and if you didn’t already know he was hot that voice made you love him even more although you knew you shouldn’t. He was raw, powerful, dark but yet oh so hot.
As the story continues we see that Quin soon learns how dark of a place Vamp City really is as it is place full of violence and rape. Quinn soon becomes the slave to Arturo and as we get deeper into the story I to n extent get why she is drawn to him even when she knows she shouldn’t be. I have to say that this is what I think I likd most about Quinn though is with all the cards stacked against her throughout this book she continued to fight and refused to give up. I am really interested in where her abilities will take her next in the next books. I have to say that while I got why she was drawn to Arturo I hoped that she still understood he was a user and will stop at nothing to get what he wants which is saving Vamp City.
Overall this was a dark read full of violence, greed, lust and plenty of hot scenes. I had a few unanswered questions though and hopefully the next book will answer them. The narrator did an exceptional job with this one especially the voice of Arutro. She made him sound so powerful yet you could tell he battled with himself about doing the right thing sometimes. I am still holding out hope that he will become a better vampire the more he is around Quinn.
