Spider’s Trap by Jennifer Estep Review

four-stars

The next thrilling book in Jennifer Estep’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Elemental Assassin series—“an extraordinary series… One of the most intriguing heroines in the genre” (Romantic Times Book Reviews).
Keep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.
One important lesson I’ve learned in the assassination business is that to be the best you have to roll with the punches. Now that I’m queen of Ashland’s underworld—by default, not by choice—a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that’s the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld’s top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.
My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I’m embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death…

Once again the author has outdone herself with this latest edition to the series. We get back to the world of Gin and her crew and see her getting used to running the Underworld and being the boss. I think some of my favorite moments in this one is seeing the way Gin decides to handle things as boss like having the kingpins have to sit down and list why they are better for a job and things along those lines. Gin was in the process of doing just that when she ends up involved in an explosion and from there we see the Gin we all know and love. I loved seeing Gin in charge of everything but still being herself along the way.

As we continued with this one we got lots of action with Gin and the crew trying to track down who was behind the explosion. We are get  flashbacks into Gin’s past as she realizes that the she has seen the work of the person behind this before. I think what I loved about this book is we got a few major revelations and a prefect set up for the next book in the series. We also got all of Gin’s awesome recipes and  we got to meet and learn a bit more about one of the kingpins. I have to say once I got to know more about her I liked her and she reminded me a little of Gin.

Overall this was another great edition to this series and I have to that I enjoyed every minute of it. I am really interested in the next book in the series as we find out something major in this one that I think will change everything for everyone. I am wondering just what Gin will do with the information she now has. If you haven’t gotten into this series yet what are you really waiting for.
